self-pollination oncidium: is possible? Male
Default self-pollination oncidium: is possible?

Hello! My oncidium is in bloom (shortly I will post the photos) and I'd like to try to sow orchids so I can try to auto-pollinate my oncidium... but I have a doubt: with self-pollination the oncidium produces fertile seeds or not? If no, I wait for phalaenopsis flower and I will pollinate that

thanks and sorry if my english is awful

seeds will be fertile if there are no ploidy issues ( some orchids are infertile ). This same issue would apply to Phals.

If you give me the names of the orchids, I can see if there is any registered progeny - which would be the first indication of fertility.

that MAY be an Oncidium varicosum. There are thousands of Oncidium hybrids and thus almost impossible to 100% identify.

The good news is that varicosum is fertile. I suggest you try a selfing as an experiment. I only mentioned ploidy because I didn't want you to become discouraged from experimenting if you thought it was something you did that caused the pollination to fail.
