Onc. ornithornychum First time blooming!
Went round and round with this Onc. for 2 years only to realize it liked morning sun! I was told not to give it sun. Anyhow, after over 2 years its blooming and I could not be happier, there are more flower spikes coming up also.
I have it in medium bark with some charcoal, a regular clay pot, I feed miracle grow orchid food weakly weekly but don't always remember and it gets morning sun through a sheer curtain for about any our or so.
Maybe I will get another Onc. Does anyone have any words of wisdom?

Also, I live in a very dry climate and it gets watered 2 X a week and misted when I water it.

I love this! I can't wait until the blooms finish opening! Please post new pics when this happens! I would love to see them. I think this oncidium is going on my wish list. The color is so delicate and soft… I love that.
My favorite is Oncidium Sharry Baby, but I'm a girl. My girl card would be revoked if I didn't vote for the chocolate smelling orchid. To ensure proper maintenance of my girl card, I have TWO of these.
I also think that you might try Oncidium Sweet Sugar if you'd like a different color combination. I think pink and yellow are very cheerful together so you could grow this beside your current ladies and it would definitely be eye catching.
Certainly, if you can grow one and have it bloom for you again, I think you can grow two.

Mine is still in bud! Cannot wait to have my own blooms...but I am glad I got to see yours for a preview!
My oncidiums also love their morning sun. I have a Burr. Nelly Isler that is blooming now on three spikes and a Wilsonaria Opalescent 'On The Edge that has two VERY long spikes up with buds, and two spectacular (if I say so myself!) Green Valley Sweet Heavenlies blooming. I am just a beginner so if I can, you can. The only thing I had trouble with through last winter is that my humidity was too low and/or I did not water the smaller ones enough and I have some pleated leaves. I hope to remedy that this season!
Good luck! Thanks for sharing your pics!

I had given up on this orchid a long time ago, not sure why I was told to keep it in bright light like a Phal. I would get another Onc. now.

There are two more "spikes" coming up which are real small right now. They seem to grow fast once they start a spurt. Do you know how long the flowers are supposed to last? This is the only Onc. I have and gave up on it ages ago!

The internet says they should last about two months. I can say that they will last for at least a month. I purchased my sweet sugar in bloom, and I've had it home for about a month and I'm not seeing signs that the blooms are giving up yet.
One word of advice, don't disturb its roots while it's in bloom or it will drop the blooms. I learned this the hard way with my first sharry baby.

Will mark the bloom date on my calendar and let you know, its very very dry here though. Now if I can just get my Dtps. to bloom! Another pain in the butt orchid.

Very pretty! And yes, sometimes you "break the rules" of what it should receive and your plant likes it! Awesome!

Awesome!
Not sure why you were told "no sun" - Even very low light orchids usually need a bit of sun, and most Oncidiums need at least as much as Phals, if not more.
