So far all is well.
The roots came from the store like this.
One of the new growths had some rot too.
I repotted today and am giving it a nice kelp bath.
I noticed the media my other one came in is very moisture retentive. So I've been keeping them in the moist side. I'm happy I was right.

There were five more zygos that came in at TJ yesterday. Two of them looked like they were in great shape, and flowers were larger than mine.
I was so tempted, but I managed to put down my urge. lol

Temptation is hard.
The flowers on mine are a beautiful deep blue purple, much more than I have seen, and the flowers are larger and more heavily scented. I'm very happy with it.
I've now got two of the three types of zygos I've seen got sale at trader Joe's. Pretty nice examples I think.
Now to hunt for that third one.

The last time I was in trader Joe's this lady picked up a blue phal dendrobium right as o walked in the door. I mentally beat myself up the rest of the day for sitting in my car for so long before going in.

I really want one of those brassia and miltassia hybrids they sell. They always have at least one.
I'm always tempted, but in really holding out for a nice plant. They come in more and again.

I feel your pain. lol
There's always next time though. wink wink. haha

Yeah, my TJ always has this brassia (I think it is a brassidium hybrid, one had a red tag with its name but forgot what it was). It smells nice and all, but just like many of other intergeneric orchids, they are quite big and I haven't seen any with high enough flower count to bring home with yet. lol

Funny thing with TJ intergenerics is that sometimes they are all crappy with ugly spotty leaves and plants looking nearly dead, and sometimes they are super clean and healthy, often these are large multiple growth plants with many flowers too.

I always end up buying this latter type of course and then end up giving away or toss the plant because they are just too big to keep. lol

I love orchid shopping at TJ

I know how you feel. The selection also comes in waves along with quality near me.
I dont wanna pay $13 for a one spike one bulb plant when I can wait a little and get one bursting out of the pot.
I do too! I just wish mine got more mini cattleyas in.

Thank you! One of the spikes is all mutated. I think someone at the nursery missed this one while watering.
Hopefully the next bloom under my care is better.

Here's another flower. The first flower is the dark one. The one that opened under my care is lighter. Maybe because it was so hot out lol.

The second spike... it's all deformed. Dunno why. Came from the store that way. I feel like it's just a conditional thing though.

The color is really pretty!
The deform thing is mostly the genetic due to breeding error I think. and virus can also affect how the genes turn on.

I think flower malformation can be permanent or occasional.
One out of seven flowers on my TJ zygo has petals that are fused into one. lol
I have a vini maudiae paph that makes deformed flower about the rate of every other blooming.
crazy...
