Got home today and found a nice surprise. It was pretty warm today and I knew this one was on the verge of needing a drink. The newest mature pseudobulb had previously been really round and smooth, but had a slight taper this afternoon. Then I noticed the 6" spike. Incredible! It wasn't there 60 hours earlier during the last watering.

The plant was given to me last May at the end of blooming, and I was beginning to wonder if it was going to bloom this year.

Nice thick spike there.

I feel sick. I was watering and got a little careless.

Oh bummer! That is too bad. But I think it has happened to many of us. Take good care of the plant and it will reward you with a spike next time.
