First non phalenopsis! New Miltonia today!
Default First non phalenopsis! New Miltonia today!

Hey guys!

Been wanting to finally get a non phalenopsis but was waiting for the right one to just GRAB me.

Went to the Bristol Farms by the office, where I always go to look at the orchids on my lunch break. Usually they have pink and white phals and sometimes a random intergenic orchid.

Today seemed like they had a brand new shipment. There was a beautiful dancing lady orchid and some intergenics and lots of new phals. I smelled something WONDERFUL and had to figure out what it was and it was this stunning Miltonia.

Well, it smells amazing, looks stunning, and had a ton of flowers, and 11 unopened blooms! $22, had to get it. Looks like a very healthy plant up close.

Now I just need to learn all its care tips

Yay!

Wow that is very pretty. I really like the dark colourings. Did you by chance have to name for this one?

It's lovely! Miltoniopsis are some of my favourite orchids. They don't like to dry completely and cannot take long periods of high heat. Usually medium light is good. While in bloom I would have it in less light to preserve blooms a bit longer.

Beautiful! The tag is the same on I see on orchids at Trader Joes. If you look at Matsui Nurseries website (the company with that tag) they should have care instructions.

Really gorgeous!

For care instructions look for Miltoniopsis. Often Miltonia instructions also include Miltoniopsis parts, but they are different and while they used to be one Genus they have since been split into the two with different care required.

Is it a Miltoniopsis or the warm growing Miltonia? How can you tell the difference? By the PB? I LOVE this! I think a Miltonia is going to my next "grab it and run"! Does anyone know what it's name is?
