Default Oncidium Heaven Scent 'Redolence' spikes

I got this one at a grocery store last fall. It already had two new shoots started, which was a nice plus for me.
Those new shoots grew nicely and now both are sending up one spike each.

I know this hybrid can have double spike, but I guess mine doesn't. At least I have two spikes at the moment anyway. and one of the two is quite big. so excited!!!

This is my Sharry Baby replacement. Something similar but smaller. (although this plant is quite large to my standard)

One of the spike has started to branch. I say one more month before I see the very first flower and smell the wonderful fragrance!

Oh, by the way, no spots on the leaves! Yay!!!

Not to take over the thread, but I purchased the same Onc., currently in bloom. It is potted in something that is not free-draining, but Im scared to lose the blooms to repotting.

Do you have any advice on the situation, since you're experienced with this hybrid of oncidiums?

well, if you are being very careful trying not to disturb the roots too much, it COULD be alright and the blooms would not be affected. but there's no guaruntee.

How bad is it? If the drainage is pretty bad, the roots will rot in no time and you might end up losing the plant.
What is it potted in by the way?

The only orchids I have hard time with drainage issue are phals that are potted in very tight mass of moss.
What I do with those is that I water just enough to keep the moss moist. It is pretty easy to see how dry or wet the moss is because most of these phals are in clear plastic containers.
In between watering, I would mist the exposed roots daily.
Once flowers fade, I repot them into more open mix.

I hope this helps.

It does, thanks! I made a separate thread about this.
Its some sort of soil-like mush with pebbles at the bottom of the container. I think Im going to wait another week or two and repot it, based on everyones advice. Hopefully, Im careful enough to not make everything drop dead.

Thanks a bunch, again!

Finally, the buds are well formed on one of the spikes. It looks like these little buds are ready to open very soon!

The other spike is growing nicely, bigger than the first one, and now showing little buds also.

Dark buds with brighter yellowish tips remind me of some kind of bugs.

anticipation begins now!
