I bought this one in spike last June. Since then, the orchid has gotten its spike tip chewed off twice by cat, and lost many roots to a bout of rot. Now more than 7 months later, it's finally bloomed.
The flower is 5" tall by 4" wide, on a 25" spike. Unscented. Very striking and three-dimensional bloom.
Congrats on the bloom. I had to laugh because I had a Psychopsis that fascinated my cat. He would sit by the pot and stare up at the flower, ready to pounce if it made the slightest motion.
Very nice. After the cat chewed it did it have to grow a new spike or did it still bloom from the old spike-sort of like Phals? I ask because my first Psycopsis spike just got snapped off before it could flower.
Silken--Each time the cat chewed off the tip, the plant would start a side spike growing from the next node down, so more like a phal I guess.
Picotee--your story fills me with dread more than laughter 0_O. It would take my cat about 30 seconds of unsupervised time left alone with an orchid spike to demolish months of growth.
