Default Medium

I used bark. All of my Oncidium are planted on quick draining bark. The reason for this is because my greenhouse is equipped with automatic drippers and foggers for watering the plants. The dripper is controlled by a mechanical timer. My greenhouse has 4 circulating fans, non- stop and the humidity is maintain between 60-85%. I want to make sure that the plants are all dry out at night. I dont use sphagnum moss. In the beginning, when I started growing orchids, I dont pay attention on the medium. A lot of my orchids from Phalaenopsis to Miltonias died because of root rot. Thats why I always repotted my newly bought plants into the bark medium. I only use sphagnum moss on my mounted plants and never on potted. I do have draculas and masdevallias planted on a fine bark and potted on a plastic net pot. They are all happily growing on my terrarium.

My goodness: I have one blooming right now with about 28 spikes, but these make mine look barren by comparison! Great work!

Wow, what amazing plants!!! I'm always happy to get only a handful of spikes on mine. Without a greenhouse it will be hard to ever get such a show, but I can certainly do better culture wise. My plants get neglected way too often, work gets in the way of my hobbies.
