Hi All,
I just bought this orchid, and a very fine specimen at that. The plant looks great, and has a huge spray of flowers and two other large spikes that are about to burst. Woopie!
However, it is potted in sphag moss, which worries me a bit, so I thought I would ask you all about your experiences with this or similar varietals and this medium. I'd hate to repot it (all my Onc. are potted in fine/medium bark, some with a bit of charcoal mixed in) for fear of losing the blooms, but the moss freaks me out a bit.
That being said, the roots on this plant look GREAT. There are a TON of roots and they are even coming out the bottom of the pot.
Thoughts?

I have Mtdm Rosy Sunset too, though mine typically blooms in the spring. I have mine in a clay pot with bark and I have trouble keeping it moist enough. I have many a crinkled leaf as a result. So maybe sphag isn't such a bad choice?

Carrie, thanks so much. That's really good to know. I will leave it be for the time being, and may think about repotting once it is done blooming is a sphag/bark mix. What is your fertilizing schedule like with this one? Also, how scented is yours. This one is knocking my socks off!

hmm. I don't recall a scent. I will need to check.

I fert with each watering at a low rate. I just switched to MSU @ 1/2 teas/5 quarts with 3 drops of Superthrive (my watering can is 5 quarts ) about 2 x a week. I do the same for everything and have been amazed at the very positive response. I also manually mist this orchid if the top roots seem dry but the clay pot is still damp.
