Tolumnias spiking!
Default Tolumnias spiking!

Fall seems to be the season for them to spike, although I had them spike at various times of the year.

There are three or four that are spiking. Some others should follow I think.

I am religiously misting and soaking thes spiking ones in order to avoid to lose these long awaited spikes.

Some of mine will be skipping this season as I was not careful with the watering over the hot summer and nearly killed them. they are working on new growths instead of spikes. well, my bad! lol

Two of my four are also spiking, although one of them spiked in early fall and the other in spring. Those two are species so I doubt they would bloom except for they regular seasonal time. It's my hybrids that seem to spike whenever they feel like it, lol....

Congrats on your spikes!!!

Yeah, mines are all hybrids and they bloom whenever they feel like it. but with shorter and cooler winter days here, they seem to flower mostly in the fall. when I put them under a halogen lamp, they do bloom all year around, but it's a hassel.

By the way, two of the spikes are showing tiny buds.
My camera was really acting up, so I am posting just one picture but both spike look basically the same with about 8 buds.
I never seem to go above 10 flowers per spike (at initial blooming). I blame the lower than ideal humidity growing indoor. oh, well, at least I get some flowers on a regular basis.

Tolumnias spiking!
Default Open!

First three are of the same plant, Genting Sunray.
It has two spikes, one of which is in full bloom now. It had some more buds but the tip dried up because I didn't water the plant enough.

The next two are of two different plants but same cross, Pink N Pretty (or the other way around). I love this cross because they grow very well and flower at least twice a year. One of the two are growing a very thick (for a tolumnia) spike with 13 buds visible. The most I've ever got out of tolumnias! so excited!!!

The last picture is another of Genting Sunray. The buds on this one is about to open any time now but look rather dry, so I wouldn't be surprised if they dry up and drop. lack of water, again...
