Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos'
I have a couple of questions about how to keep this baby happy and healthy as I have only had him since August 25. He is currently in a 3.5 in pot with an aircone, and small slits all around the bottom edges, he is potted in bark (there is a tiny bit of moss growing on top). The first picture is of the whole plant. He has two spikes, both are blooming now. When I got him there was one bud starting, and that one opened almost a month ago now, and the second one grew in and opened just yesterday(Oct 6). When I went to water today I noticed two things growing at the base, are these new bulbs? I was only able to get a fairly clear picture of the bigger one at the edge of the pot. Finally, when is the best time to repot this guy, as it looks like he is soon going to outgrow this one. I have read that Psychopsis can be very sulky about being repotted, and I don't want him to die on me.
Thank you in advance for your help

My only experience repotting my pyschopsis was as a newly purchased tiny seedling. It barely had any root so was easy not to damage them. I put it in a plastic basket pot and lava rock so I won't have to repot. Hopefully someone else can help you. Good luck!

With the same fear as yours, I simply put the plant, pot and all, in another larger pot and filled in the space with additional potting mix. The plant seems to be OK as it should because I did not disturb it.

If you put it in pot and all, how is it being re potted? I can understand this method if it is in a netted basket, but this is plastic!

The new pseudobulbs will crawl over the edge of the old pot into the new potting mix.

Repot it next year.
I dont see any roots or bulbs being choked.
This is very slow in growing so no hurry to repot at all....
but if you repot: soak the pot for 5 min in water, invert the whole thing out and gently repot in a bigger sized one; and make sure it is very stable and dont make it move about in the pot=anchor it steady
*tip: put a saucer full of water under the pot....if the water runs dry its time to water the whole plant

Mine are not sulky at all when I repot. I agree with the saucer of water. I do not have very high humidity, so I keep mine sitting in the saucer of water. Now that it is coming into the cold season, I will let the saucer go dry for a bit in between waterings.

Do you have it raised above the water?

Thank you for the advice. I bought saucers and pebbles to make humidity trays for all my plants. However, I never have managed to do it yet, but i definitely will do it soon.
