Psychopsis Kalihi
Psychopsis Kalihi (kramerianum x papilio)
This is a primary hybrid thriving well on my south facing window and outdoors in the warmer months on the fire escape.
I water this around every 2 to 3 days in the warmer months. Although this plant is warm growing, it can tolerate intermediate to cool temperatures. I keep humidity high during summer (Manhattan is hot and humid in the summer outdoors) and well ventilated (small oscillating electric fans in the daytime if it is indoors). I give it a watering regimen regularly in spring to fall and I reduce watering in the winter by letting the pot dry between watering. I have a saucer filled with water under the pot and if it is dry it’s time to water the plant. If over watered the plant may rot from fungus or edema (on the picture, I have to cut the half of the leaf from edema).

Very nice that is such a fascinating orchid; it looks like a butterfly sitting on the high spike. Your bloom is divine. I have one that is like old faithful it blooms for me several times a year but never gives any new leaves and they are looking really tired but I am not complaining it is a real conversation piece.
