I bought this compot in April 2012. I don't know when the seeds were harvested or sown.

Where do you buy Miltoniopsis, I browsed around for them before, and never really saw them at any online sellers. Yours look very healthy, I hope it is a spike!

I have a spike !!!!! So its 20 months since deflasking and a lot of trial and error in-between. I have never been able to grow miltoniopsis longer term; I am convinced that it's because they do not flourish in higher temps.

The seedling was at the back and I only spotted the spike when it peeked out. This is exciting as its my first from a seedling. I'm hoping that others will develop, temps in my basement haven't gone above 64f for months so this is a pleasant surprise.

---------- Post added at 10:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:37 AM ----------

this spike grew out from the inner leaf closest to the pbulb and not as I would have expected from the leaf furthest from the pbulb. There is a lot of new pbulb growth in the plants, I guess I was hoping that some of this new growth is/are spikes.

Congratulations! Please post photos of the blooms. Thank you for taking a picture of the plant as well--since that gives me a good idea of the plant--which, as you have experienced, is what you see more often than the flower itself!

Yes, this is a fascinating thread. And I always loved miltoniopsis ever since I was unable to grow them at all in Houston (they definitely don't like THOSE outdoor temps at all!). Maybe if I'd kept them inside with A/C, etc., but I had poor light conditions inside back then.
