Default Lockhartia lunifera

This orchid has such great and interesting braided leaves, some people grow it just for its foliage. Native to Brazil, I grow it in intermediate to warm conditions… in a shaded location eastside facing bathroom window. The small flowers are really cute and fairly long lasting. Requires consistently moist soil; I do not let it dry out between watering; in winter I give it a slight dryout between waterings. It is potted in medium fir bark, charcoal, lava rock and hydroton. Fertilizer weekly weakly with Algoflash alternating with seaweed mix.

Bud, I just did a quick Google search because I had never heard of Lockhartia. I don't mean to sound like a complete idiot, but the picture that came up looked just like yours and said it was..........Monocromatico. So my question is, do you have a Lockhartia lunifera monocromatico? Or do they look really similar? I went to Daves Garden.com.

Susan, what you read was Lockhartia lunifera by Monocromatico from Rio de Janeiro: meaning he was the one who posted the thread on Dave's World(a site you can post your orchidblooms and culture)...I have the specie plant that have also come from South America; who knows it might have come from sisters of his plant that changed hands from growers to seller but I am sure my plant is not a variation

*I am happy to have grown this into a big specimen...it came from five mature plants now I have six mediun plants and eight more new small ones emerging

Bud, thank you for straightening me out on this. I am drawn to the unusual and the leaves are just amazing!

How long have you been growing Lockhartia's? Where did you order yours from?

Again, thanks. When you have new blooms please post pics.

I have this plant for a year and a half now. I got this from ecuagenera.com (they come to the USA to attend orchid shows and they mail it to you from wherever they are in the US=the plants they sell are very cheap=I got this for $8) and most of the plants in their catalog are pretty rare and hard to grow...but I picked the easy ones to grow because I am just a windowsill grower.
