What to do when the bloom is over?

I just received my first milt 2 days ago, and it came fully bloomed. I was a little disappointed as I had been told it had buds, and I wanted to have it bloom here for me, in order to feel more of the process. Anyway, does anyone know how long they stay bloomed, and, do I cut off the spike like a phal, or leave it alone? This one a 'Miltionia Andrea West', and the flowers are white with varying shades of yellow to peach to orange inside.
