Trichopilia Sanguinolenta

Hi,

Does anyone out there grow this plant? I am trying to find any information or anyone who grows it, and it is proving quite hard.

Hi Shawn. Helcia sanguinolenta is closely related to Trichopilia and can be grown like these. In my experience it is easy to grow, under cold to warm conditions, even being healthy when kept wet and cold in winter. I am sure Ecuagenera has plants to sell.

Thanks for that info-- I did not know that. Any idea why the genus is helcia?

According to IOSPE:
Helcia sanguinolenta (synonym: Trichopilia sanguinolenta)
Common Name : Blood Stained Trichopilia
This species is found in Ecuador, Peru and Colombia at elevations of 600 to 3000 m, growing in forests and mountains needs cool night temperatures, and in the summer, it is best grown in the shade with high humidity and plenty of water while in its growing stage and then a rest period of 3 to 4 weeks after flowering in order to prepare for new growing leaves and roots.

Hey Euplusia,

Thanks for that. Do you know why the genus switches to Helcia? How they are "closely related"? I am looking around, and it seems that there are three species (brevis and callichroma as well) total. And even those seem to be "closely related" and listed as tric sometimes too. Just trying to learn about this.
