Anotherof my (3) Miltonia. I have to check if I have the write name (miltonia or miltoniopsis in my files)? Anyway this one is my favorite . Love the scent on this one "Cultivar Steve Skoien 'Poetry in Pink', AMAOS. (Winner of the Riopelle Award) I worry about the black spots on the leaves. What is this? I have been now trying 1/4 tsp of Dithane * a broad spectrum fungicide to this plant. Hope I am doing the right thing? I'd hate to lose this one out of any in my collection. Pink with black mask and so gorgeous. Any idea what the black spots are? Thank so much. Phragman
I found after I starting misting mine a fair bit I got some spots similar to that. Not sure if that's the cause but I have quit misting.

if you spray cold water on the leaf and the droplets didnt dry soon enough then it becomes black spots...thats why we need fans to circulate warm air and dry those droplets
Silken Thanks! I could give that a try. I am not growing in a greenhouse at all, I use drip trays under my plants for humidity and that is about it. I do get quite a few blooms and my longest phal went 9 mo in bloom , the same spike. They are incredible. I love any orchid though with fragrance and bought a oncid Sherry Baby this year too. I have to admit I am a happy adict :-)

Thanks much. I may have to rethink my misting those genre of plants. I know with Brassia they carry some kind of spotting too but the plants seem to get along, bloom, regrow and clean themselves up sort of (like a symbiotic relationship) well that isn't the right word but you know what I mean I think. Now with the miltonia two plants look OK but my favorite has these black spots. There are virus or bacterial things too I would think. A saw some spots kind of under a leaf between the bulb and I worry about something getting out of hand. It has spread but very slowly. Like the brassia, the new bulb does not show this ? but in time who knows. I'll try a dryer plant and see. I also did send in two leaf samples (phal and paph) with some bug on to the lab and haven't heard yet what it is- hate to lose a plant. phragman

Do they start out small and then get larger over time? then they are fungal infection.
Oncidiums tend to get spots easy, which I find very annoying as I hate to see those spots on the leaves. I don't know why it is that these orchids get spots so easy, but at least my twinkle get those spots easy when sprayed.
I spray all my orchids. after the lesson learned from my twinkle, I only water the root area for oncidium types. All others, I still water all over and nothing bad ever happened so far.
Well, I try not to mist the paphs on their leaves. I never had spot issues with them, but I just read some scary disease paphs can get when too wet. lol
I freak out over things easy. then again, it's all because I love my plants and don't want to lose them.
