Oncidium hybrid throwing multiple new growths!
Default Oncidium hybrid throwing multiple new growths!

This plant ( heaven scent) developed two little new growths on each of the two pbs last november. For some reason, only one of the two growths continued to grow leaving the other ones at hault.
Today I checked again and noticed that one of the ps is growing a thrid new growth.

This is quite intersting to me. Why would it stop developing the first shoot, focus on growing the second shoot, and now starting a third one?

Whatever the reason, I hope they all grow nicely because more growths only means more flower spikes in the future when those growths mature.

The first two pictures are from last november. You can see four little shoots at the bottom of the pbs.
Then the third picture is from today.
Staring from the left, you can count up to five.
The third one from the left is the newest growth.

Mine have done this in the past, both on Oncidium types and on Paphs. I think they just have some reason to stall on certain growths. As long as the plant is not stalling all growths I wouldn't worry about it.

Sometimes it's better not to try to understand why plants do the things they do, lol. Seems like you have at least 2 growing normally, so all is good. Interesting that it made so many growths, I never get more than 1 or 2 on my Onc types.

I guess that's what I should try- not trying to understand.

I have been observing that the first two growths are arrested at where they are while the other two later growths are growing bigger and even have some roots growing out of them! the last little growth is also slowly growing. It would be so cool if all those five growths mature at the same time and throw out lots of spikes.
maybe too wishful thinking.

My twinkle and typical yellow dancing lady grows one new growth per pb and all others seem to throw two per pb.

It's possible then that those first growths stalled out for whatever reason, and then the plant put out new growths to make up for it. That would explain that there are so many growths. Who knows, maybe the first ones will wake up again someday.

I have a Vuylstekeara (Oncid multi generic) that put out a new growth from the latest PB. Then another which stalled, and now a third that is growing! Very much like yours! I don't know why or if the stalled one will ever grow.
My Burrageara Nelly Isler started a new bloom spike in a small almost mature growth which has been stalled for at least 9 months. But in the meantime it grew 2 or 3 spikes from other PB's that bloomed beautifully. I do know the growth with the stalled spike had a few crinkled leaves (lack of moisture) so it may have been too dry at a crucial time for spike development.

It makes sense. I think it's most likely that I underwatered it or the virus doing its magic
Or maybe just plant being crazy. hahaha

I'll continue on the progress report on these guys.
