Was supposed to be Miltonia spectabilis var. Moreliana?? - Orchid Board

I bought this plant recently and it has an Ecuagenera tag in it saying it is Milt. spectabilis var. Moreliana. Something that's been on my wish list for a while. Well, it bloomed recently and I really don't think that's what it is. Especially the var. Moreliana and likely not even the species spectabilis. I think it's a hybrid such as Milt. Honolulu. Any thoughts?

Well, its nice nonetheless. Gosh, I hope someone can help you, as it really sucks to get a NoID that was supposed to be ID'd

Ya, it is nice and smells real nice too. But I paid $25.00 for it (at the last society meeting) and it isn't what I wanted. I did e-mail Ecuagenera to see what they say.

There are many hybrids of this general appearance, including Milt Honolulu as you have already observed. It is very unlikely you will be able to positively identify it as any particular hybrid. The influence of other Miltonia species (like clowesii) is pretty obvious. It definitely is not Milt spectabilis or var. moreliana (or just Milt moreliana as it is now recognized by some).

Thanks. I guess I just wanted some opinions to confirm my suspicion that this is not Milt. spectabilis var. Moreliana, or even the species itself. I have e-mailed Ecuagenera and sent the picture to see if they were growing any similar hybrids. I didn't find any on their website and price list currently. I haven't heard back yet. I still want the real thing so its too bad I got this one instead.

I feel your pain, same thing happened to me. I really wanted a Miltonia spectabilis var. moreliana, and bought one at a show 2 years ago. It bloomed a few months later and looked pretty much like yours, with a nice lilac fragrance. But it was not what I wanted, and I never heard back from the grower

I think I can get one at Paramount but for another $32.00 and then its growing space to consider as well. I try not to buy just anything anymore. Ecuagenera is pretty good so I am hoping they will at least get back to me even if they don't recognize it. I see on their website they have Onc. spectabilis var. Moreliana but the picture doesn't look like most I have seen and it isn't very nice. So maybe I should just fork over and get it from Paramount.

Ecuagenera can sometimes mislabel their plants.

One of my Kefersteinia was mislabeled upon purchase.

It happens.

Luckily it's never happened before for me that I am aware (I guess I have a few that haven't bloomed yet tho!). Did you let them know or get a replacement from them?
