I think having it bloom will definitely solve the mystery behind this questionably labelled orchid.
I just hope for your sake it's flowers aren't purple(near impossible) or green(most unlikely).
Then the hunt for it's identity will continue!

Default Tolumnia Esther Oka 'Aida'

My friend Bill McNaught, an Australian Tolumnia grower, says that your plant is named Tolumnia Esther Oka 'Aida' and that it was registered by Kaoru Oka from Hawaii in 1993 with parents of Tolu. Manu and Tolu. Hawn.

He has provided the attached photograph of the clone 'Aida'.

Also attached is another colour variation of Tolu. Esther Oka.

Just wondering how your friend knows for sure? did he see the picture I posted? or just by going by the names and eliminating possibilities? Many thanks to your friend Bill for great info and pictures!! I really can't wait to see this one come into bloom...the mystery of it all has really got me going!!

I am now the proud owner of this little gem mounted on what looks like cedar. I can't seem to find a picture of it anywhere online, and I have no idea what the colour will be. I'm hoping someone on the forum can help.
Also, I noticed that the Oncidium Easter name may have changed to Tolumnia Easter....can someone please verify if this is correct? the label reads Oncidium Easter 'Oka'
Thanks in advance....any help would be appreciated.
Hope this helps, I think color may vary.

He has read all the posts and with the information provided, concluded it was obviously a label writing mistake, which happens all the time.

Also: "Tolu. Esther Oka comes in many shape and colour variations and a clone such as Aida can vary greatly. It is quite common and readily available world wide.

It would be very unlikely that your plant would be Tolu. Easter, registered by Moir in 1972 with parents of Lovely reg. 1950 and Osmentii reg. 1960. Tolu Easter would be a collectors item and not likely to be given as a prize at a society meeting."

Daemondamian: Thank you very much for providing such a great summarization. It makes sense to me now. I don't know what I would do without all of you!!

Hi Daemondamian and everyone! Thought you might like an update. I finally found the guy who donated the Tolumnia Esther Oka at my orchid society meeting. He verified that it is definitely Tol Esther Oka, because he got them in Hawaii when he was visiting there...I think he said from the Oka family. THere ya go!! Thanks again Daemondamian, you and your friend were RIGHT ON! (He told me I should go ahead and change the incorrect label)

Now I have another question:
Can I pot this one? right now it's mounted on cedar and I find it extremely difficult to water it daily...yes, daily! it dries out so quickly...it just has a touch of sphag moss.
If so, what mix should I use? THx.
