There is a Tolumnia (Onc.) Esther Oka... Would that work?
Can't find an awarded clone, but I think you probably have Esther Oka.

Hi
I looked in orchidwiz. There is a
Tolumnia Easter (no mention of any 'Oka' in awards)
and a
Tolumnia Esther Oka
Perhaps there was some confunsion between these two names!
I would say that yours is Tolumnia Esther Oka, because Oka is the name of someone/something that appears in a lot of Tolumnia registers. It should be the name of a family or orchid company.
Tolumnia Easter, was registered by Moir, so I think it is less probable to be that. But, of course, the "Oka company" could have done the cross and give Oka to one of the seedlings.

Sorry Rob, I didn't see your post.
I would bet in Esther Oka and keep the other name as a backup, just in case.

Helen, Dorothy is right. There are only two registered Tolumnia named Easter: Tolumnia Easter and Tolumnia Easter Parade (please, see http://www.rhs.org.uk/research/regis...idresults.asp), the International Orchid Register.
Apparently, there’s no T. Easter cultivar named ‘Oka’, but
a google search reveals that there is what probably is one unregistered Toluminia Easter Oka with two distinct clones mentioned: ‘Aida’ and ‘Kultana’.
So, Helen, the person must have mistakenly quoted Oka on your label.

Well
Mauro, you can be right, but there is a problem on that rational. Kultana Orchids are known to have unregistered crosses, but they are also known to be a bit sloppy with the names. As it seems that these two clones (Kultana and Aida) comes from them, I would not be too sure.
(see other mystakes in their list Kultana list)
Either way, be it from Kultana or be it Tolumnia Esther Oka, the ones I saw were all beautiful. That is the important point, i guess. The plant will have the final word when in bloom.
A general treatment to Tolumnia hybrids that usually works is to give them bright light and intermediate temperature. Mounted ones are easier because their roots like to dry fast (a few hours at best). I have try some in very small clay pots (2 inches) and with large pieces of bark or hydroton, it worked. The key is (again) to dry fast and have a open media. I water every day (or almost). Try to avoid watering the center, between the leaves and in general concentrate on the roots.
If you get anymore information do tell us and of course, show us the flower!

It will be exciting to see which oncidium you end up with.
Please keep us posted!

Thanks everyone for your input.. I spoke to another person at the Orchid Society, and he said it is more than possible that someone could have messed up on the name He suggested that I leave it as is, and then speak to the Society's expert on Tolumnia as he is probably the one that donated it in the first place! I have to wait till mid Sept. to find out, but patience is a virtue, right? Oh this guy also stated that we should continue to use the Oncidium rather than Tolumnia, if that's what's on the label...Apparently there are two schools of thought out there on whether they should have been separated.
So chances are all of you are correct and it probably should be Esther and not Easter.
If anyone finds out anything else, I'd appreciate hearing from you!
Again, Many Thanks!

Thank you Rob, I'm looking into the name error possibility with my Orchid Society.

Actually I'm pretty confident about the separation of Tolumnia from Oncidium. It is a well defined group and they are different looking plants. Some of the other newer splits I have trouble with, don't get me wrong...
Anyway, don't change your tags. Or if you absolutely must, add the name change to the tag. So you could write Onc. (Tol.) Esther Oka and that way you know both names.

Thank you for your important advice....This is a great solution to my little label problem!
This is probably a dumb question, but would seeing the flower actually help determine which it is?
Of course I'd have to get it to flower first
