Camille, it is located on 29th street between 6th avenues thru 10th...there is also every saturday a flea market in that area and growers sell their plants...14th street at Union Square is a produce market every Thursdays and sometimes Saturdays...growers from the suburbs bring plants to sell; and you meet them face to face and ask tips on how to grow the plants you buy.

Yes, I love the flower district. I try to visit at least once a week, just to see if I find something unique that I like. I like surprises. lol
Also, it is a lot of fun to see lots of colorful flowers they have. I just picked up some amaryllis, white poinsettias, red cyclamen and yellow/orange begonias earlier this week!

It is actually on 28th street between 6&7 Avenue.
I got my orchids from a few stores there, some from Union Square farmer's market, and some from online order.

By the way, Bud, if you are looking for some more Tolumnia, there's one store on the north side of 28th st that carries a few still. (towards the 6th avenue end next to a store that sells artificial flowers and baskets, think it's called whole flower something). I was there just last week and they had Pink Panther and Genting Orange. The store mainly focuses on cut flowers, so just walk in a few steps and you will find they have a small section full of orchids (mostly paphs, intergenerics, cymbidiums) nice guys there. I like them.

Camille- Next time you visit Manhattan and want to visit the flower district, you want to go early in the day. morning is better as most stores open really really early in the morning and then close around noon, although some store stay open til 2 or 3.

They all carry white phalaenopsis all year around as it is the most wanted in Manhattan for business, party, wedding, apartment enterance and hobbist like me.
Then phals of some other colors and shape, and some intergenerics throughout the year for most stores. Dendrobiums pretty much all year around at one or two stores. then different types of orchids at different times of the year at different stores.
It is fun and when I first came to NYC, I visited them a few times a week.

Well, I got all my Tolumnias already in bloom and some of them have bloom again and again off the same spike.
Now they are all growing new fans. Whether or not I will see new flower spikes is yet to find out soon.

What growing conditions are yours under? just curious so I can compare how I'm doing.

I think only two of mine (under a haolgen lamp) are doing well in terms of light. They are showing slighly red/purple tint along the edge of new leaves and some super tiny speckles just like the mature leaves. All the other Tolumnias have light green leaves without any speckles or dark lining around the leaves.
