I have a Wilsonara that started two new growths around the same time last year - one is now big and fat and in spike - the other sat there being very small until just recently, when it started growing. As long as the new growths look healthy I don't think it's cause for worry

I'm not really worrying, just wondering why. Perhaps the second growth will start growing when the other one is fully developed.

I found it curious as well - maybe someone else may have an explanation

I don't have an explanation but I know mine often do that. I have a dancing lady one (oncidium) that started two growths and the one growth is further than being just an eye but then it quit growing. The 2nd one to start is the one that has grown and is now about 3 inches. I also have a Vuylstekeara and it too stalled on the first growth and the 2nd one has continued to grow. I can't tell if the stalled ones will continue at some point.

I also have a Brassia/Brassidium that's doing the same. It started a growth which grew about 2 inches, then it stalled, and a a month or 2 later another grow started. The second growth is now twice as big as the first one. (which has recently started growing again, but very slowly).
Your plant is looking quite dehydrated though, the bulbs are excessively wrinkled. Are you watering enough?

I was thinking the same thing as Camille about the shriveled pbulbs. The plant does look dehydrated. I would check the roots and if they are not rotten I would water more.

Thanks. I'll check on it. I water once a week, but now with higher temperatures perhaps I'll have to water more often.

The old bulbs will never plump up much, they're too far gone. But watch the new growth, if you get pleated leaves then it needs more water.
