I'm green with envy! I'm just a newbie, but do know a good thing when I see it. What a great find!

True, but I'm usually quite good at wrestling them out sometimes!
I haven't made an impulse buy like this in a long time, since usually all there is is plain Noid Phals and a handful of dead looking "Cambria". I've managed to wean myself off of those.

This was at a place called Tuincentrum De Oude Tol, I don't think it's a chain nursery. It's not often that they have good stuff like this. I have noticed though that on the rare occassions that they have stuff from this particular grower (can't remember the name, need to check the tag), it's really good quality stuff.

It's a Miltonia, I know that for sure since it was on the second tag in the pot from the seedling supplier. I think it's one of their own crosses since they do a lot of breeding, and I've emailed to see if it has a name other than Miltonia ST5876 (or whatever the numbers are). I'm going to grow it like a Milt x binotii, since it's identical to it other than the lip markings.

Wow Camille, that's a fantastic looking plant and what great roots!
My Miltoniopsis had roots like that and after leaving it initially I did finally work my way through the root mass and tease out the old medium I'm not sure if it was a good idea or not as it would probably have been fine just potted up, but it's done well even with my brutality and is actually in flower again right now. (and yes there was a moss ball in the middle).

I ended up just plopping it in a larger pot as it is. Even if there is a sphag ball that kills some roots, there are so many others that are growing well away from that area, so I doubt the plant would even notice!

I think you are right, I did a lot a damage to the roots on mine and while it didn't seem to mind too much (I did it in the spring when new root growth was just taking off) I don't think it would have harmed it to leave it either. Like you say, there are so many roots the spag in the middle is not going to cause that outer mass a problem.

Oh My Goodness! That is a large specimen ! Beautiful blooms...you have the right instinct dividing it will lessen its beauty; whereas next season it will put on a magnificent show of blooms...

Think I got a name for this orchid!
Miltonia Goodale Moir x Miltonia candida.
Think I'll still leave Noid on the tag since it's not 100% sure.
