Default This time it must be a spike- right?

The last time I posted my Beallara Tahoma Glacier I was told that the little nub was a new pb. Well, I have spotted another new growth from the other side of the plant and this must be a new spike as I don't see how it could be a pb due to where it is coming from. It is right next to the mature pb and I am hoping - based on what someone said last time, that this means that it is a new spike!!

I really hope that this time it is a spike. I also have a Nelly Isler that too is putting out a strange growth from underneath the biggest pb. It is coming from the same place as the B.T.G growth but where the B.T.G is a thick pudgy nub, the Nelly Isler's growth is very thin. I tried to get a pic of it but it was too difficult. I will have to let it get a little longer first. Oh, the excitement...

I have been through this once before. I was told by the helpful people on Orchid Board that new spikes came from next to the mature pb so on that advice I am keeping my fingers crossed. I really hope that it is one because I love these flowers so much but if it isn't at least that will be two pseudo bulbs that will one day give me lots of lovely flowers.

That looks flat like a new pb growth. My Oncidium alliance spikes always come out round rather than flat.

It's hard to tell, but don't give up hope yet. It looks spike-like to me.

Oh you are too kind!

I will hope for a (nother) pb and then if it is I won't be too disappointed but if it isn't ( !! ) then I will be ecstatic!

It could be either at this point. But I have found mine come from right beside the PB, but in the very centre of the leaf that is next to it. Where the leaf kind of folds up the centre. To me, this growth looks to be against the PB but at the edge of the leaf. The Nelly Isler does sent up skinny pointy spikes based on what mine did, but again, from the very centre of the leaf and against the PB. I always pry those leaves open and check to make sure the spikes don't get caught as they can if the leaf is closed tight down there.

I hope I'm wrong and its a spike tho

Yes the Nelly Isler is right in the centre of the pb and coming out as a thin twig like thing. But the BTG is also coming from the centre and growing towards the right hand side. It is very far underneath the mature pb so I thought that it could only end up as a spike due to the area it is growing from. I can't imagine a pb fitting into that space. But I will hold my breath and cross my fingers

Dont be disappointed if you keep on growing pbulbs...the more you have the more spikes it will produce and you will have a very spectacular show of blooms...patience has its virtue
