Onc. carthagenensis
I guess Braem has split this off into Lophiaris carthagenesis. It is basically your typical 'mule ear' oncidium. Long spike with 'spikelets' of little flowers all along it. Nice color for this species, I think.

Not an overpowering fragrance. Maybe a little. Hard to tell with the Stanhopea open at the same time.

the most recent name is Trichocentrum carthagenense (Jacq.) M.W.Chase & N.H.Williams, Lindleyana 16: 137 (2001), accepted by the kew gardens. |

Heh... I'll keep calling Oncidium until I die, probably... This is grown in bark mix in a clay pot, and the clay pot is on a hanger. Hasn't been repotted in many years, probably needs to happen this spring maybe. |

I like Onc. carthagenense a lot. Tried it two times, two plants sent to the orchid heaven! Yours is really striking!Those I have seen around are not that purple in the centre and also not so dark spotted, being more chestnut colored. After having seen yours, I have to look for a plant to try again...!
In time: As for me, I'll keep calling it Oncidium too!
