Oncidium Masterpiece 'Nalo' (parentage??) Male
Default Oncidium Masterpiece 'Nalo'

I got this little guy at the Redlands show in May. It is mounted on a piece of wood with some sphag. I tried googling it but got nothing back. It's not registered either. That said, does anyone have a clue to its parentage? I was thinking bifolium as one of the parents? It now has 3 spikes, the longest being about 10" long. The leaves are between 2" and 3.5", and the bloom is maybe a little less than an inch from top to bottom. The Asian vendor I bought it from said that it blooms twice a year. That's all I know about it, other than that it's tiny and beautiful! Thanks for looking!

Oh dear! That plant is properly know as Onzelumnia Masterpiece (Zelemnia Trixie x Oncidium varicosum)

Zelemnia Trixie is Tolumnia triquetra x Zelenkoa onusta

The tolumnia and zelenkoa were once classified as oncidiums.

Orchid Wiz rocks!

Wow! Thank you, Ray! Way more info than I was expecting or even hoping for. I will certainly update all my notes.

The RHS hybrid register has this as Gotokoa Masterpiece. Oncidium varicosum became Gomesa varicosa a couple years ago, so Zelemnia Trixie x Gomesa varicosa = Gotokoa Materpiece.

It couldn't have a name like Masterpiece without being registered (or some vendor running a scam), and you can always search the RHS hybrid register, but if there has been a change in a genus or nothogenus like this it can take a little extra effort to track it down.

It will not surprise me to find Gomesa varicosa in the same trash can as Sophronitis purpurata one day.
