Default Beallara growth - Spike or bulb?

I have just noticed a new growth on my new Beallara Tahoma Glacier and I don't know what it could be. Is this a new bulb or ... a SPIKE!!

That's a bulb for sure. Spikes will come up right against the bulb and not between leaves.

Argggghhh I so wanted it to be a spike but I suppose that a bulb is as good as anything

Thanks for letting me know though.

Bulbs are good, they mean more flowers! If you growing conditions are good, usually the bulbs will set spikes as soon as they've matured.

Thanks Camille. I don't suppose you know how long it takes for them to mature do you? I know, I'm too impatient

Also depends on your conditions, but from nub to bulb I would say at least 6 months. But my orchids don't get excellent growing conditions through the winter, so I suspect that it could be shorter in ideal conditions.
You may see spikes on the older bulbs still if they have never spiked. Who knows!

Oh that's good news then. I thought it would be something like a year or longer. I have an unmatured bulb already that is almost half as large as the one it came with and an even smaller one and now this tiny nub. So I should see flowers for a few years to come!! Hopefully the oldest bulb will throw up another spike, only one side has so far spiked so maybe there will be another one to come. Thanks Camille.

I don't think you are likely to get another spike from an older pbulb - if they are capable of more than one spike (don't know if Bllra do this), they will come in pretty close together time-wise.

I have only one Bllra, but it does start spikes BEFORE the pbulb is mature - I don't know if this holds for all Bllra, or not - mine is Tropic Splendor
