Some time ago I bought this Sweet Sugar (I don't know if the name is correct. In spain it's called "Dama Danzante" or Dancing Lady). It had one spike with many ramifications on it. After it stopped blooming, I cut off the spike. There's a new pseudo bulb growing. I suppose this bulb will be the one that grows a new spike, isn't it?

It has another bulb that has not yet bloomed. Do you think it might grow a spike?

Does this orchid also need a cold period to set up spikes?

It is usually a bulb that has not bloomed yet that will spike, however I don't think all of them spike... at least mine don't and I think it's possible for an older one to spike, or even spike again.

Mine just seems to do what it feels like on spiking... which most of the time means growing and not spiking

I think Rosie is correct. Mine has spiked from an older bulb, as well as the newer bulbs, and some bulbs don't spike at all. Either way, these guys in my hands have just started to show the pseudobulb portion of the growth prior to or around when it will spike. So the first picture, if it spikes, should take another month or so before it nears maturity. I can't tell from the other picture about your other growth.

Hello again. Here some new pictures of my Oncidium so you can see its evolution. I'm wondering if the new growth shouldn't be swelling by now. Just as I was taking the pictures I saw there's another new growth. How should I proceed with watering and fertilizing? I was about giving it a cold and dry rest, but if there is a new growth, that must mean it's in a growing period and it needs water and fertilizer, right?
please advide what to do.

Hi mine is in flower at the moment. I water it all year, making sure it dries up as roots can rot. Have never given it a cold /dry rest. It makes new roots on each new growth(p/bulb) and then spikes on that new growth. Usually get one spike per new growth sometimes 2.
