I have a very healthy Onc. Ornithorhychum which has thrown 4 flower stalks. They have been there for over a month and don't seem to do much. Seems to be taking them a long long time to bloom and I am not sure they will. Anyone know what the issue is here? Thanks for your help.

Would you happen to have any pictures? Some kinds of orchids just seem to take their time when blooming. The only thing you can do is patiently wait, and by the sounds of it, it will sure pay off!

Default Onc.

Yes, I will take a picture of it this afternoon when I get home I am leaving now. This particular orchid is under a skylight which gets very bright light all day long, no sun.

I don't grow this one, but seems most of my orchids, including Oncidiums, the spikes generally take around 3 months to grow before they bloom. Are the spikes growing?

I thought mine was stalling too.... The spikes grew but no flowers developed for AGES! I got quite worried its my first Onc. and first spikes I decided maybe it was water as she's a thirsty one compared to Phals etc. so I tried soaking for an hour at watering times in a bloom fertiliser to give it time for a good drink, and saw growth renew within a week!

Whether it's the ferts, the watering time or just the weeks and weeks I watched it doing nothing before this I'm not sure but within 3weeks of changing my habits I'm waiting for flowers to uncurl any day now.

Just make sure it's not still too wet before u water it again each time

I agree with Mssar, its what they have a habit of doing.
When the days get shorter and the weather cools they will bloom. Its not uncommen for this species to bloom around xmas time. This spikes will sit for months.
It'll be worth it, you'll see

Default onc. flower spikes

Ok, thanks for the advice, I thought something was wrong with this orchid. I will just be patient, I am sure I will enjoy them more the longer I wait.

Did you move it from its original position? The humidity must have changed to cause bud blasts...dont be confused. the plant must conserve energy and let go of the spikes...but make sure to water it well ...Colorado atmosphere at this time is dry and if the plant is inside on an AirConditioned room it can be even dryer...my oncydium is in bloom indoors to cool it and extend the flower lifespan...I water it in the morning and spritz it in the afternoon and dry all night
