thanks
well, things I did differently the year preceding these blooms from the previous year +
noticing the south window got no direct light once we got into spring, my tolus were moved outside for the summer, getting some afternoon sun, and retaining a bit of the reddish-purpley 'tan' they got during the winter in the south window - then in fall, they went back to the south window, where they spiked - don't remember exactly when I noticed the first spikes - late winter, early spring maybe
also - I had repotted a couple of them into slightly larger pots, and so put skewers into them, so I would know how often to water (even put skewer into the one that was left in it's original very tiny pot) - I determined that at least during winter I had been probably over-watering the previous winters - not enough that the plants rotted, but I have read that too much water can prevent these guys from blooming. I had previously watered them every day, even in winter, and found they could go 2-3 days (3 days for the ones in slightly larger 2" pots, 2 days for the 1 1/2" pots). I do keep the heat low, and winter here is definitely 'damper' than our summers, so between cool temps, and higher humidity, they just didn't need daily water in winter.
And even right now - despite being summer (we've had quite a bit of cooler than usual temps, and that comes with higher humidity), the two tolus in the 2" pots take a couple days to dry completely - so I'm really glad I put skewers in there, or would probably have been watering daily.
So - in my case it was more light late spring to early fall, less water, in winter especially
hope that helps
