they're still pretty sturdy, so I guess I'll leave them alone. Also, she puts out a lot of blooms around this time and I don't want to disturb her. So leave them, unless they get smushy, right?

absolutely!
from what I have observed on my Miltassia, spikes start when the new growth is nearly fully developed

lovely blooms, btw - I love the Shelobs!
