Psychopsis Buds, then Blasts, Repeatedly
Hey all. Some of you may remember a post I started about a month or so ago on my Psychopsis recovery and finally starting to throw a bud. However, that one blasted. At first, I was ok with it, as it's been in recovery mode for quite awhile now. However, it then threw another bud right after the first blasted. This one aborted too. Now, the process is starting AGAIN! It's just now showing another bloom, from the same spike as the other two, from the same node and everything!?!
Anyone have any idea why this little guy is insane? I'd really like one of the blooms to make it, but from the past two I'm wondering if there is a problem. If it helps any, the bloom starts to show, lasts about 2 weeks, then goes yellowish/brown and shrivels up. As soon as it's lost though, a new one takes it's place. This is the 3rd bud from the same point in a little more than a month? Any Ideas?

The blooms should last for over a month or so that was the case with my Psychopsis. What medium is it potted in?? Does it get any drafts ??

Well for whatever reason the bud, once it starts fromt he last node only makes it about 2 weeks. It's green and everything, and it looks fine. Makes it about half and inch, give or take, then blasts.
As the the drafts, there aren't any in the room I have it in that I'm aware of.
It's in S/H, receives fairly strong early light, then good indirect from high noon into the night.

Sounds like all of the conditions are right. Have you checked inside the papery sheet that the spike makes for mines. Sometimes they hide under it and suck the life out of the bud.

You mean mites? No, but a good idea, I'll give it a once over when I get home. I just figure it may not be strong enough to throw a full bloom. I'll keep you posted

Oppp sorry !!! I did mean mites. If the bulbs aren't shrivelled and there are roots growing and the leaves look healthy It should be blooming with no problems.

Yeah I see lots of good roots, and there are 2 strong 10+" leaves that survived the sun. One leaf is about 6" and is my "1/2 leaf" due to a bout of sunburn, but it's still fine. Oh well, maybe third time is the charm...

What is your humidity? I don't have a Psychopsis but occassionaly a phal will exhibit this behavior and for me it is always the low humidity. I increase it and poof, the blooms mature and open.

Hi!
Which psychopsis is it? I just bought mendenhall 'Hildos' last week because I liked the way the flowerless plant looked. It is my only psychopsis and still small so hopefully by the time it blooms, I'll learn from this thread what I should be doing when it blooms. : )
I hope all will go well, now, and you have blooms for many more years! Good luck!

It's Psychopsis Papilio. It is a good looking plant even without the blooms. Gettign the to spike is the hardest part. After that, the plant does the rest if it's kept in decent conditions. They are hard to kill, but I guess they aren't the easiest to get to rebloom.
