possible tolumnia spike burn? Male
Default possible tolumnia spike burn?

Hi there, can anyone say if this white area on this spike is sunburn or something else?

This 13" spike only produced 7 buds and 2 buds have fallen off. There are 2 more buds that are in bad shape. So I think the spike is under stress from too much light. I have the plant under t5s most of the time its not in the window.

thanks for your help?

can anyone do an ID on this tolumnia based on the flower color? it was given to me as a NOID 1.5 yrs ago?

thanks again fellow tolumnia lovers!

I'm puzzled as well. I have quite a few of them myself and have never seen this. I grow mine mounted, so the spikes never need to be staked. I'm going out on a limb here, but could it be a heat burn. I doubt it is light, since the top part looks o.k. I.d.ing it will be difficult, there are so many hybrids. Just enjoy the blooms and try to provide optimum growing conditions, so the next time you'll have a better crop. Good luck.

How close to the lights do the buds get? It almost sounds like they are blasting from the heat of the T5's. I move my Tolumnia to the windowsill when the spike gets within 4-5 inches of the bulbs. I don't think it's the light intensity so much as the heat.

thanks ezil and bill. I think you are right. too much T5 heat. I let the spike grow within 2-3 inches of the bulbs....
next time I should be smarter and get the plant out of the light as the spike grows skyward!

thanks again and happy growing yourselves!
