Miltonia flavescens spike - interesting, to me at least - Orchid Board

first time this plant has spiked for me - I find it interesting there is sheath on the spike, and the buds are developing in the sheath - something I haven't seen on Oncidium alliance before

I did see today that the largest buds, lowest on the spike, are starting to push out of the sheath

My miltoniopsis have a bit of thin covering on the blooms as well. Maybe its a miltonia thing. Looks like a lot of flowers are coming from what I can tell!

Interesting - I guess it must be a Miltonia thing - the description of this species on IOSPE does include the sheath - I just had never seen this before, but this is my only Miltonia - I have previously had some that more resembled Miltoniopsis, and they did not have the sheath.

Yes, it's a good sized spike! I can't tell how many buds it may get/have, yet tho.

Also interesting, tho I have seen Oncidium alliance that do the same, is that the spike is on immature growth. This plant currently has a number of growths that are similar size, so I keep checking them now lol - one feels like there may be a spike in there, but can't see anything - we'll see.

I hope you get many more spikes! My milts come out of the thin sheath fairly early. I had one, that the sheath wasn't giving way and trapping the buds so I finally cut it a tiny bit just to free the buds. By the time the bloom spike is a good size the sheath is history and not even really visible. Yours seem more extensive but similar nontheless.

Yeah - obviously, I noticed the sheath fairly early on, but it was a few days ago, when watering, I noticed good sized buds in there, and then I started to worry about whether or not they might need help getting out - but they seem to be doing it on their own now - guess it's best to keep on eye on that tho.

This one has been growing like a weed! I got it less than 2 years ago - it was a 3 pbulb division - it now has 12 growths, and half of those are "new".

Thanks, I'm hoping there will be many spikes too - but would still be happy with the one (for now)
