This is what OrchidWiz says about caring for Burr. Nelly Isler:

40%-80% humidity. Water heavily but ensure perfect drainage. Water just as medium starts to dry; Watch water quality carefully. Commonly grown in pots. Fertilize twice monthly, less if overcast. Common media: fir bark, ammended with coarse sand, coarse perlite and shredded peat.

Hi Silken,
that's helpful.
So maybe I'll be okay with the bark on the bottom with long moss and coco husk around the sides of the pot. I'm pretty sure I'll spray the little leaf.

Learned lots of stuff (water before it dries and the pleated leaves means underwatering)

I started off as a phal (unsuccessful) grower, so now I'm nervous with all my orchids.

Thanks alot for your help. Hopefully I'll be successful with a bloom soon!

Good luck and enjoy! If there is an orchid society near you, they are usually worth joining. People share information and you get to see lots of lovely different orchids. Ours places orders for orchids that wouldn't be possible or feasible for one person to do on their own. It feeds the addiction

Canadian Orchid Societies

This is the link to the Canadian Orchid Congress. It lists the orchid societies by province.

Thanks silken. Looks like I missed the Toronto show in Feb. I'll have to hang on until May.

I tend to put a bit of spagh near the 'new roots' (at the top of pot) this still dries within 24/48 hrs but helps keep them a bit moister. and then when it goes dry I spray the spagh slightly .. (must not be very very wet or you can cause rot)
hope this helps.
