Yes, they do have a scent. It does mature after a week or two. It's nice, but I can't compare it to anything.

Hi Charles

Great one!

I like Brassia hybrids. They are far better to bloom than my Brassia Rex...

I guess it needs more light, the problem is that my setup doesn't permit that at this time.

I have heard of those with pleating problems that have solved that with semi-hydro culture.

Any thoughts on that?

Mine is 'Lillian Oka'.

What would you say is a proper humidity? I live in South Central Idaho and have been experiencing wild humidity fluctuations. Mostly around 35-40% with spikes up to 50%+ after watering and/or spraying plants down.

So far, no pleating, but I am just now getting my first new growth since obtaining it from someone at our club - FOR FREE!!!

By the way, don't make the same mistake I did while researching this plant: I put BSDM in the search field. You DON'T EVEN want to do that, really you don't.

I have a Brsdm. Longlen 'Bill Switzer' with a wonderful sweet smell. What does it mean when you say it "pleats"? Lisa

In low humidity and/or not enough water the leaves will get stuck while trying to emerge. They will either not come out and get all bunched up or when they finally do emerge have a pleated or crinkled look to them.

The spikes also get stuck when emerging and break off.
You need to watch it every day when it is ready to throw off spikes. Catch them before they snap.
