Here's another photo of a mule ear Onc. This is Onc splendidum, with 14" leaves. Photo 2 is of Onc splendidum flowers, which are about 1-1/2 to 2".
The leaves are extremely stiff ... the tips could puncture your skin.
yes, this is a fantastic species... I highly recommend it: great blooming and easy to grow... only negatice point (for those with space limitations): the erect spikes can be up to 5' long!
does anyone have a pic of the BUD on a mule ear not in bloom yet ?
I want to see the location of it and what it looks like. I want check see if the BUD looks like the one I just noticed on my moool Ear . I bought it at Lowes and was a bag baby few months ago.
shot out one giant leaf. then at the bottom of that leaf has a funny little starry thing growing from the base and I think its a BuD ...But I am still NOOB!!!
Kavanaru is correct those first two pictures are not mule ear oncidiums. This is a mule ear oncidium "Onc. Maureen x Haemmatochilum Red". I understand that it has now been reclassified as a Trichocentrum. It's very fragrant and when not in bloom it looks like a phalaenopsis. The culture is like Cattleya, bright light and dry between waterings.
