Default New milts (Temp concerns)

Hi all,

My order from clouds arrived yesterday, I received 2 milts with buds
Now here's the problem, after being boxed for the last 4 days and as of yesterday they have been in the high heats of 80's, OOOF!
They are now in moderate lights, with lots of fanning. My concern is the buds, that perhaps will fall off or just not bloom right. They is no AC in site for atleast the next week, which by then the temps will be back to a normal pace, with much cooler nights.

I'm thinking about putting these guys in the bathroom since it's cooler there with all the tile, but the lighting is not the greatest, there are no windows.

So should I move them and get them cooler with less lighting & no fans or should I let them be??

Your idea's please .....?
TIA

Gloria, your acclimation needs to be slow moving, heat to cooler, total darkness to light . I am unfamiliar with your growing enviroment. So I will hypothetically speak for my enviroment, indoors. If this had happened to me....I would...

Not change the temp variations to quickly 80 degrees is not so bad, but now thats comin' from a Floridian.., taking to a cooler setting if no less than a 12-15 degree differrence will not harm the blooms.

From dark to light, yes, that is a concern, 4 days acclimation of darkness to medium light that's good.

My main concern also would be "with lots of fanning", lots???? I would have good air circulation but do not over-whelm the guys and that brings up another thought, lots of fanning and cooler location...possible bud blast.

It should not take more than a week for you to see the condition of the 4 day withdrawl of lighting and weather conditions.

I recently moved my cym and onc. to the patio, wouldn't you know it it dropped in degrees by 20+ degrees, and extreme wind. Dang that is what happens when work comes between you and your loved ones... Well this was just a week or so ago...appears they are whimping out on me....usually within a day or two I can visually see a growth increase...NOT now, seems they have just decided to chill. But once again these guys are not in bloom so recovery will be simple. In your case yours are in bud. Be kind and they will reward

Thank you, Cheryl .

Ok sounds like I should let it be, since another change maybe not be good for them - I agree!!

When I said lots of fanning ... I do mean lots of air circulation around the room, not right on top of them.

80 degrees is hot for milts for sure, But the humidity is very high aswell, might aswell be 105 degree's
They are under moderate light as in 2 - 26 watts CFL's, this 'chid rack is 3 feet wide. So i'm not worried about high light issue's, mainly just the heats.

Oooh I'm glad you brought that up, I got some cym's with the milts. I hear there tougher plants then catts

Keep ya posted on the little milts, I'll post the flowers if they do bloom.

Gloria, I wouldn't worry about the heat they came from Toronto and it is usually warmer there than Quebec ( on average). I wouldn't fan them too much (might dry buds) as the air is quite dry right now 27% and 30+ deg C here at 3:30 p.m.

Agree with Ken. Milts are pretty sensitive to dry air (as I found out ) so as Cheryl said, move slowly. I just found mine responding to increasing humidity even though temps are running nearly 80F right now here in "ice-box" Cadillac I'm beginning to think my winter bloom problem was more related to dry air and dry mix than anything else.

Sure wish that storm they have been calling for days GETS here We could use the cooling off. Humidex is low your right Ken. It's been going up and down sitting at 37% now. But in my house with all the fish tanks it's higher, Fans are staying on -- I'm dying here, LOL!
I see some of the buds already coloring up - Still wanna see my bloomers, Cheryl

Ross, It's good that you figured out when you had some trouble with yours. I didn't know that they even bloomed thru -out the colder months.
Do you have any spring bloomers?? I wonder if these would be better for you

Typically my Milt. and others are spring bloomers. The season was right, it's just the weird weather (I think) that caused real low humidity in the house related to normal. I don't know what else could have caused the problems with Milts. Everybody else was pretty much normal this year (except Encyclia tampensis, which is subject the sun and weather also). Of course I have certain other guys still in constant bloom (Tolumnia, Epidendrum, Oncidium, Phals, etc.)
