I didn't have much success with oncidium types, nice green foliage but no flowers. When I increased the light, the spikes appeared.

I found that they can take a lot of light if it is done gradually but in my climate I have to watch the heat factor. Bright light but no hot.

The leaves are kind of yellowy green.

i just bought 2 rescue brassias. i have all of my orchids on a 3 tiered metal shelving unit. i have two 10 ft windows in that room facing sw... should i put the brassias in the window? my cyms are already on one of the windows large platforms... will the brassias like it if they get direct light but not the heat?

That window should be well-loved by all sorts of orchids. Southwest is the way to go in order to get the most natural light in the home, imo. Save for maybe a sunroom...

Anyways- cattleyas and dens closest, with oncs close behind.
Can you move that shelving unit flush with the window? Not that aesthetic, but would take advantage of the most light.
If your windows are double paned or filtered, I've never had a problem with plants burning or getting pissed. My phals love being flush with one of my southern windows. But mine are filtered/double paned.
If not, just slowly transition them.
