I agree it's hard to say, wait a little untill it elongates, then we can tell for sure.
I guessing it's a new growth though

Mine just produced a new growth and it seemed skinnier than yours. The photo sprout looks fat (spike (?). You will know in the next couple of weeks.

The bulb had formed in Nov I believe. Since that 2 bulbs have grown. I agree time will tell - This little guy is about 10 days, I find this kinda slow growing for a bulb, so I had to wonder if it was indeed a spike. The photo shows it too be chubby like, It's not it's sticky lookin'. Guess I just wait longer to find out.
Thanks for ur replies

That's why I asked. If this is coming from a new growth that has never spiked, it could indeed be a spike. It's just a little early to tell, since this time of year these guys are usually sending out new growths.

Such negativity is unbecoming in an orchid addict Ross!
Orchidists need to think positive! (I like my fantasy world where all orchids thrive and bloom )

Normally I am more hopeful, but the condition of the pseudobulbs (shrivelled) leads me to think they are pretty mature and this time of year most of these guys are sending out new growth. The odds say new growth, but I have been wrong in the past.
