Default Colmanara new growths keep drying up

Hi everyone.

I have a Colmanara orchid which was labled up as Cambria Bob Cat originally, which does not exist, so this is a NoID. I showed pics of it in this thread.

Anyway, since the early spring it has made several attempts to produce new growths, but then keep getting a little way, then just drying up at the tip and stalling.

What could be going wrong?

There are some pics of some of the new growths here.

Could it be lack of water... although I thought that caused pleated leaves in onc types. Any other ideas?

No-one got any ideas on this?

In case it helps... I keep mine in an east facing window (although I moved it to my green house yesterday).

It has been in house type temps but these growths have been doing the same thing both earlier in the year when it was probably arround 15C-19C and now when it is a lot warmer.

I water when the bark seems to have gone a bit dry, but I know I often am a bit late so it might get too dry at times... could that be the cause (although as I said above my other onc allicance orchids just show wrinkling in the new growths when that happens.

The roots in the pics do look rather dry. I would give it more water if it were mine.

If it was labeled as Colmanara Bob Cat, it was probably just written incorrectly and is, in fact Bobcat, which has been transferred to odontocidium.

Odontocidium Bobcat would prefer to be kept evenly moist in an airy potting medium.

Hi Ray... I don't find Bobcat registered under any genus on the RHS site... although having said that others that I've previously got results for are not showing, I wonder if their is a problem in the DB just now, I will check again later.

This one does not quite look like Wildcat which has a version called Wildcat 'Bobcat'. The flowers are the right shape and size, but the wrong colouring for Wildcat 'Bobcat'.

Anyway... do you think lack of water is a likely cause of this. I sort of feel that IS something I'm doing wrong, it's just I've not seen it cause this effect in other cases and wonder if there could be something else as well.

You know, you're right, Rosie. I WAS thinking of Wildcat 'Bobcat'. I shouldn't respond before that first cup of coffee kicks in.

There are Paph Bob Cat, Paph Bobcat, and Masd. Bobcat - no colmanara or odontocidium.

Just how dissimilar is your plant to photos you've seen of Odcdm. Wildcat 'Bobcat'? Culture can affect flower coloration, as can mutations that can occur in cloning.

Maybe too dry. How are you caring for it?

Well it's close enough that when I see pics of Wildcat 'Bobcat', or see it in person a few weeks back, I think... "Hey that IS what I've got" then I actually compare pics and realise that no, it's different. Here is mine on the thread from when I first got it http://www.orchidboard.com/community...a-bob-cat.html

It has the same dark Burgundy red (maybe even darker) BUT unlike Wildcat 'Bobcat' which has yellow tips to the petals and yellowy back to the petals, this one just has some stripes of yellow.

I think it's close enough to be very likely to be closely related. Could even be, possibly, Wildcat as I've seen versions of that which are even more stripy than mine.

I also think it's probably close enough that I can try and care for it like Wildcat... after all that's what we're talking about here.

Actually just looked closely again at the pics of mine and it DOES have some yellow on the back of the petals as well. Hadn't noticed that before.
