Default miltonia spectabilis

saw one of these mounted in a small shop for well over 100 bucks, it did have about 30 blooms on it and was awesome looking..So I had to go find me one too without the blooms or the hundred dollars and came up with this one from hausermanns

the leaves are really strange and curly knotted and wrinkled when they come up out of the bulb. they do straighten out after time, but that really tossed me off some

but I think they happy now with some orchid freinds

Wrinkled curled pleated leaves on Miltonia usually indicate a water supply issue. Even if they seem to smooth out eventually it could still be evidence of a problem. It shouldn't be a root rot problem on a mounted plant so it may indicate not enough water or humidity too low. A plant that large needs a lot of water not easily to supplied to a mounted plant.

I have one of these mounted (it was the OB project plant in the summer last year), not as big as yours though.

They can take LOTS of water mounted. I dunk the entire mount in water for about 10min every day, moving towards twice a day in the summer (like now). When I've forgotten to water I've seen the older p-bulbs start to wrinkle but these seem to have plumped back up for me when I've watered it lots again.

ahh okey thanks.. I got it like this and it was dry as a bone .I been soaking it for about 15 minutes each day..abd mist it everytime I see it with some Superthrive I been adding .The one other miltonia I have in a pot needs water almost everyday. I might need to soak for 30 a day until the wrinkly leaves start coming out right but that makes perfect sense being a miltonia mounted and dry thanks I go home and soak him in the tub with me NOT

You may find existing p-bulbs and crinkley leaves don't straighten, but new ones should be plump and straight.

Mine seems to keep plumping up but it only ever gets the wrinkles for a day and I think if it kept them for longer they would become permenant as orchids in this alliance don't usually plump up.
