Default Psychopsis I.D. A new face in the crowd.

My daughter recently gave me this untagged Psychopsis. I have a Mendenhall 'hildos' but this one is different. The blooms are lovely and very large...about 6 or 7 inches from top to bottom. The leaves are mostly green but have a faint pattern near their base. It looks very healthy. The spike is nice and green, another bud is preparing to bloom, and it has a new growth.

Does anyone wish to hazard a guess on her I.D.?Attachment 45905

Sorry I can't help you with the ID, I don't know much about Psychopsis, other than the fact that I want one! The blooms are absolutely gorgoeous, and yours sound absolutely huge!
You have a very nice daughter!

Thank you. My daughter was a challenge during her teenage years, but we got through all that. She's turned out to be a loving, thoughtful, responsible young lady and I love her very much!

Thanks for your help, Ray.

Krameriana was a good place to start. The plant was purchased from a road side vendor so I doubt it's a true species.

This Psychopsis seems to have traits of both krameriana but with larger flowers like
papilio. I double checked and the blooms measure 6".

Kalihi is a hybrid of the two and then there is Kalihi 'Big' and Kalihi 'Ruby', but I couldn't find information on their crosses. Photos give bloom details but lack leaf detail. The leaves on mine are primarily green, but they do have some faint splotchy markings on the lower third of the leaf nearer to the base.

Can't help on ID I'm afraid but just wanted to say it's gorgeous.

I wasn't convinced I liked Psychopsis until I saw one in real life last week... suddenly I can see why people love then!
