Onc. Twinkle Little Star spots? Female
Default Onc. Twinkle Little Star spots?

Hi all! This is my relatively new Onc. Twinkle, got it from ebay about a month ago. I don't know if it had spots when I got it, or if I gave it spots . Does this look like it got too much light to you? It is a small little plant, but seems to be growing happily. The leaves are only about 3-4" long.

Any advise? The spots are mostly visible on the top side of the leaf.

Thanks friends...

Oncidium alliance are prone to spottiness - making it difficult to tell sometimes what is cause for concern and what is not. I can see bract foliage that looks like they are on their way out - the bracts do wither and die, sometimes not long after the blooms are finished. The leaves on top on one of the pbulbs may also be on their way out. They too eventually will die off. I can't really say if it's premature due to a problem or not. Do you have new growth on this plant? And if so - how does that look?

There is lots of new growth coming off a few different bulbs, and yes, it just finished blooming... cute, but kinda stinky if you ask me These were the worst of the spotted leaves, a couple of the others had minimal, and most of those were the leaves on the farthest outside of the psbulb just like these.

I guess I'll just watch and wait

Thanks for your help and thoughts, I greatly appreciate it!

A lot of the thin broad leaf orchids have a tendency to spot, it can also be due to over fertilization or lack of air circulation.

To me that looks to be the harmless type of spotting that Oncs are prone to developing, but don't take my word for it. On my oncs at least, high light leads to yellow-green leaves, but no spots. Are you getting water on the leaves, or misting the plant? That's one thing that is known to give these guys spots.

It was in a west facing kitchen window, so both are possible (water spray and high light) I have since moved it to a plant rack on a wall near one of my big west windows, but the rack is on the side that doesn't get the direct light... hopefully that will help it.

Thanking you! )))

wth? haha. i have the EXACT same plant from what looks to be the same company. its the same tag and everything. even the numbers NN447 and yellow tag.

mine just finished blooming about a month ago and i put it outside in what i thought was a good greenhouse and it bakes along with the rest of my collection :'( oh well time to start over.

anyways it was one of the lucky survivors and has a zillion new growths what im concerned about is that the pseudobulbs are all shrivelled and the thing is planted in bark and dropped into moss surrounding it so i think the roots rotted. where did you get yours? i got mine at trader joes

I got mine on ebay, but I can't remember who from, and it has been too long for it to show in my history on ebay. It was in a tiny square plastic green pot and looked quite squished/happy in it, but I potted it up anyway. I'm glad yours has lots of new growths, hopefully the pseudobulbs will make it. My pseudobulbs look happy enough, and there is a lot of new little growths coming off of it, even with the brown on leaf tips. I've been trying to keep it out of direct sun and not let water get on the leaves too much, we'll see what happens. Here are some updated photos one and two

I would take it out of the sphag moss and repot into a smaller container while it is still healthy...esp if the blooms are done
