I recently acquired a Mtssa and I have a question-

You say 15 spikes??

Do these send new spikes on old psyedo bulbs as well as new mature?

If not, do you just have a lot of newer mature bulbs spiking all at once? How do you have 15 spikes??

I have only had phals so far (and it hasn't even been a year at that) so I don't know how sympodial orchids work.

LS, I ended up with growing my plant over the past 5 years or so in one container, using bark as a substate. Over the time it has produced a lot of new growths and pseudobulbs every year...I have not split the plant at this point. This year out of the new pseudobulbs from late last year and early this year there have been 17 spikes. My plant has gotten good early to late morning sun and light shade the rest of the day...I let it get close to dry, then I soak it and feed it with 30-30-30 at les than 1/4 strength. It has been a great bloomer although this year we had a lot of leaf hoppers feeding sap out of the plant. Some buds dropped. It is a great plant and has been very florific!

It flowers only from the new psuedobulbs since the last flowering period.

Wow that's a lot of growths

It can have 2 spikes per pb right? One on each side? Or no?

Quite frankly I have not paid too much attention to new growths....Just checked. One growth grows, then sends up a spike, then another grows and I assume sends up a spike later in the year or in the next summer. My plant is very compacted! So I have several growths ready to send up spikes for next year. Some, I can see have come from both sides of a pseudobulb.
