Miltonidium Bartley Schwarz... a gift from my Mum :-)
My Mum was visiting Burnham Nursary recently and decided to buy be an Orchid as a late Birthday present.
She made a wonderful choice, I really love it
The flower in the last picture looks like it has no lower sepals, but they are actually tucked back behind the skirt. The spikes are pretty tall and there is a massive p-bulb as well as a smaller p-bulb and a large lead growth.
Finally, I find that RHS has TWO orchids registered with this name by two different people. I think one of them used to be an Odontonia and I sort of guess that mine is the other one, but I'm not sure. When I find pictures of Bartley Schwarz online they look very like mine, does any one happen to know which one of the two this is as I would quite like to know it's parentage.
Not sure about the synonym thing though. RHS has it twice with different parents. One of them is a synonym of Odontonia Bartley Schwarz and the other isn't.
WOW very nice Rosie! l look forward to seeing how you grow this as I killed the onlyMilt I had a few years ago (too much H°² as usual) But I do have an Onc.Sharry Baby which is flourishing (3rd year now)
Yeah working out the growing conditions will be a test for me as well. I have two Miltoniopsis, one of which is doing well, the other of which is slowly heading downhill. I have a mounted Miltonia (the summer 09 project plant) which is doing really well at growing but not flowering, and I have an Onc. Sweet Sugar which I have no idea about either way.
I have a couple of other intergenerics in the Onc. Alliance and again I don't really know what I'm doing but they are not dead yet (and some are showing signs of new growths). So we shall see... I really hope I can work out how to care for these things before I kill too many
