Default Onc. Sharry Baby in lava rock?

I've just bought 2 Sharry Baby's from a local greenhouse that were on thier post bloom table. They are potted in plain lava rock and are very healthy mature orchids (6" pots). Does anyone use lava rock for these? I thought a more dense media would be appropriate for these? They are my first Oncs. I have Phals, Dends, Catts, and Tolumnias but are unfamiliar with these.

Thanks in advance!
Dave

They probably got them from Hawaii, as lava rock is a very common medium over there.

The fact is that orchids can be grown in anything, as long as the rest of the conditions and your watering habits can compensate.

Yes, Ray I think they probably came from Hawaii. I had never seen any in lava though. I assume just water a little more freq. as they are in great shape.
