Hwra. Lava Burst 'Puanani' Male
Default Hwra. Lava Burst 'Puanani'

This has been blooming for over a month now. Just went to look at it as it is on the top shelf and noticed what appears to be new spikes forming from the lower nodes of the spikes. It has four spikes and now they all have these new growths. Is this normal for this plant or am I making it very happy!?!?! Thanks!!!

Wow! That's great! Mine finished blooming almost two months ago. Mine is smaller than yours, so I haven't seen branching spikes on it, but I have read that it's pretty common for them to branch.

Regardless, way to grow!!

Hi jaxorchidman

It is an indication that your plant is healthy enough to go through a complete sequential bloom cycle.

This plant is a great bloomer. Mine started blooming about the same time as yours when this photo was taken. You may be able to see the buds on some of the branches off the blooming spikes that are just opening now. I also had 2-3 separate spikes on each pseudobulb. The ones that produced only 2 initially are now putting out a third spike. Even every small division I propogate in water culture are putting out new spikes.

Awesome! I have one too, not in spike yet though and smaller than yours. LOVE the flowers on this plant!
