Orange Brassia not Orange? - Orchid Board

I bought an orange brassia last march. Its Brassia arcuigera ‘Caruso’ AM/AOS. It blooms like crazy. However, when I bought it, it was most distinctly orange. All blooms since then it has been a fairly typical brassia white/green. One bloom was under my lights, so I figured it might have been that they were not bright enough. BUt it is now outside, and despite happily throwing three spikes, it is still blooming white/green. Is it still not enough light? Too much light? Something else? Am I nuts and it wasn't orange to begin with despite my notes and memory?

The Brassia you have should be Green with large brown V's on the sepals with a white & green lip. No orange anywhere.

I cannot think of too may Brassia's that are Orange, I could be wrong, but I believe the only one would be warscewiczii.

Well, that's what it looks like now, for sure.

But I could have sworn that plant was orange when I bought it. Sort of like a Orange Delight, but not as bright. It looked a lot like this, except darker http://www.flowerfantasy.net/Orchids...-pmpkn_LRG.jpg. This plant in the picture is alternatively indentified as an arcuigera

Assuming I am not insane, could the color be affected by the amount of light, fertilizer or something else?

My Brassias are generally white/green until they get old and are about to drop, then they turn orange, to a coral pink, before they finally drop.

What colour are your flowers right before they drop? Or more precisely, hoe=w long do they last?

I ask the latter question because the last time I had blooms on one of my brasses, it was real hot out and the flowers only lasted less than two weeks. I don't think it had much colour with that short stay.

When I got it it was orange and the flowers lasted about a week after that. The next time it spiked, they didn't last long because I had not seen them and tied them until too late and they broke off while trying to move the plant (cry). This time they have just opened I have have carefully moved the plant indoors because it is so hot . . . you think they will darken over time?

I don't want to mislead you, just saying what happens to mine. But, I might go so far to say that if they stay on long enough, you may see a color change right before they drop off. Usually a week prior, which makes sense in what you explained.

I can post a pciture of my plant when I get home tonight, though.

Interesting about the color change thing . . . there are two spikes . . .one is as green as that picture, though a bit lighter. The other opened that color a couple days ago, but its now more of a pale gold, and the spots are a lighter, redder brown. Pretty much like this picture. http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...47682119UkATfU.
